Michael Neumayer: the German record-holder for ski flying and a business administration student at Kempten University of Applied Sciences.
Kempten University of Applied Sciences is the highest-altitude higher education institution in Bavaria. It supports successful winter sports athletes seeking to gain academic qualifications whilst pursuing a sporting career. Tight schedules and fixed examination times have to be reconciled with numerous competitions and enough time for training.
To improve studying conditions for professional athletes, the German HE sports association (Allgemeine Deutsche Hochschulsportverband adh)set up the ‘Elite Sports Partner Institution’ project (‘Partnerhochschule des Spitzensports’) in 1999.
As a participating institution, Kempten University of Applied Sciences undertakes to create the necessary framework for a more flexible course schedule and assessment programme. The emphasis here is on ‘flexibility’ – the degrees offered are anything but ‘easy’.
The project is also supported by the athletic development association Olympiastützpunkt München and by Augsburg student services.
