Who we are

Kempten University of Applied Sciences is a cosmopolitan university in Allgäu, southern Germany, which offers applied, interdisciplinary, international and pioneering higher education courses. We strive to offer a diverse and in-depth range of degree programmes in the fields of science, engineering and the social and health sector, and to be a place where students take joy in their studies and academic and other staff take joy in their work. Gender equality is a fundamental guiding principle which all the University’s administrative and regulative measures seek to promote.

Quality

Kempten University of Applied Sciences seeks to offer excellence in vocational teaching, applied research and development and knowledge and technology transfer. We are a modern, environmentally-aware state training, educational and technology transfer institution with a strong focus on service.

Highly qualified and motivated staff and state-of-the-art facilities ensure we live up to our strict quality standards. The University works to provide funding for professional development for both academic and administrative staff to ensure they are equipped to meet constantly changing demands in teaching, research and administration. Annual staff appraisal meetings are designed to assess and discuss the motivation and needs of staff in detail.

Focus on practice

Courses at Kempten University of Applied Sciences give students the skills and knowledge they need to apply scientific methods. Teaching always draws on experience and the latest challenges in professional practice. Kempten University of Applied Sciences is the ‘university of the Allgäu region’, and as such believes it has a key role as a partner of regional SMEs. That is why it is closely involved in the knowledge and technology transfer, in particular in its affiliated institutes.

In practice, problems and challenges do not heed disciplinary boundaries, which is why we seek to offer interdisciplinary solutions through close cooperation between faculties, through interdisciplinary courses and by teaching students strong social and methodological skills.
We promote the use of innovative learning methods, including project work, multimedia, computer-assisted learning, online mentoring and student access to the Internet as well as to a wide range of specialist literature.

International

Kempten University of Applied Sciences has a strong international focus which equips the institution to meet the challenges and harness the potential of increasing globalisation. Our students are offered a wide range of opportunities to study abroad to learn about other countries and cultures. We are committed to promoting international exchanges, and offer an excellent range of modern language courses. We also run international programmes which lead to the award of international degrees.

Elite Sports Partner Institution

Kempten University of Applied Sciences is the highest-altitude higher education institution in Bavaria. It works with the German HE sports association (Allgemeiner Deutschen Hochschulsportverband) and the German ski association (Deutscher Skiverband) to help successful winter sports athletes gain academic qualifications whilst pursuing a sporting career.
