Prof. Dr. Arnulf Deinzer set up the ‘Kinder-Uni’ – children’s uni. - at Kempten University of Applied Sciences in 2005. So just what is it?
Each semester, the University stages a series of four ‘children’s university’ lectures. Varied and interesting topics are selected by the professors and lecturers especially for children, and prepared and delivered for a young audience. The ‘students’ are given a fascinating introduction to the world of science and research. Since the Kempten children’s university was launched, the tailor-made lectures have entertained and intrigued around 6,000 children. Young students have discovered the answers to many weighty questions such as ‘Does Europe need a king?’, ‘How is a tornado born?’ and ‘What does maths have to do with ratatouille?’.

All interested schoolchildren between the ages of eight and twelve are warmly invited to take a sneak peek at the academic world of Kempten University and join the children’s university lectures.
The lectures are held in the largest and most modern lecture theatre at Kempten University, the Thomas Dachser Auditorium. Known as the ‘Audimax’, this hall in the foyer of Building V seats 350.
Real student life is recreated: all children receive a children’s university student ID card, which is stamped at the beginning of each lecture. Children who attend all four lectures in the semester are even awarded a children’s university graduation certificate at the last event.
The children’s university project is promoted by the Allgäuer Zeitung newspaper (media partner) and is supported by Raiffeisenbank Kempten, McDonald’s Kempten, Füssen, Sonthofen, and Hugendubel bookshops.
