    Aims and Objectives

    The term kollegiale Beratung or (leaderless) peer group supervision refers to an individual-oriented counseling approach that takes place in a group and in which cases presented by single participants are systematically reflected (Tietze, 2010). Four core characteristics characterize the consultation format: (1) A group of pofessionals provides the social frame for the peer supervision process; (2) individual-oriented cases from the participants´ professional practice are presented; (3) the peer supervision process is conducted in a structured way and in distributed consulting roles, and (4) all roles process (e.g. case presenter, peer supervisors, moderator) can be taken by each participant and role relationships are reciprocal (Tietze, 2010).

    The importance and popularity of peer group supervision in leadership development have increased in recent years, probably due to the consistent orientation to participants´ practice. In organizations, usually groups of 6-10 executives, project managers and/or managers are formed. They are offered an introductory seminar focusing on the methodology of peer group supervision, after which they agree to practice peer group supervision at regular intervals for a period of about one year (Tietze, in Press).

    The seminar offers an introduction to the methodology of peer group supervision and has a practical scope. Along with background information, empirical findings on effects of peer group supervision, the philosophy of peer group supervision, and the methodology of peer group supervision outlined by Tietze (2013) are taught and extensively practiced on the basis of real cases from participants.
