Rates for semester or internship abroad

The amount of funding for studies or internships abroad on the Erasmus+ scheme varies according to the different costs of living in the host countries (“programme countries”).

Group 1

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, UK*

600 euros per month
Group 2 and 3

Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain

Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Turkey

540 euros per month

Important: A maximum funding period is stipulated each year, depending on the available budget and the number of students who will receive funding. During the academic year 2024/25, the maximum funding period is likely to be 3 months / 90 days per semester. Any stay exceeding this period will be unfunded, but retain Erasmus status (classified as “zero-grant period”).

*Brexit and Erasmus+
Post-Brexit, semesters abroad in the UK will be funded by the new Erasmus+ programme under “International Mobility”. The rates for Group 1 countries will apply.

Internship top-up

Students undertaking an internship abroad will receive an additional € 150 per month on top of their basic grant.

Social top-up

Inclusion and equal opportunities amongst potential grant recipients are considered central to the Erasmus+ scheme.

For this reason, the following target groups can apply – in addition to the “regular” Erasmus+ mobility allowance – for a “social top-up” at the present rate of € 250 per month:

  • Students with a disability (disability level 20+) or chronic illness
  • Students with child/ren
  • Students from a non-academic parental home
  • Working students

Subsidy criteria for a social top-up and further info

Even if you meet more than one of the following criteria (e.g. first person to study in the family and in employment), you can only qualify for a single social top-up (i.e. € 250 per month) payment.

Green travel

The Erasmus+ programme supports sustainable travel to or from your host country in the form of up to 6 days’ additional qualifying period for funding. If you use low-emission transport such as buses, trains or car-sharing for most of your trip, you can apply for a subsidy before setting off abroad in the Mobility Online portal.

Blended mobility (short stays with a virtual component)

If a virtual component is combined with a short stay at the partner university, then an on-site stay lasting 5–30 days can be funded. The online studies can be completed either before or after the on-site stay and must be worth 3 ECTS in total. The following funding applies to mobile participants on blended intensive programmes (BIP).

Duration

Support
Days 5–14€ 79 per day plus travel expenses subsidy
Days 15–30€ 56 per day plus travel expenses subsidy

ImportantThe length of stay that is funded generally equates to the number of days spent studying at the partner university, but this might be capped if we don’t have sufficient Eramus+ funds to cover this!
